Aggies Go Global: Grand Total and Chili's Night!

We are a group of graduate students in the field of Audiology, Speech-Language Pathology, and Deaf Education at Utah State University who have a special interest in providing early intervention services and auditory oral training to children with hearing loss and their families. We are working in conjunction with the Global Foundation for Children With Hearing Loss to provide education, training, and resources to children, parents, and teachers in Vietnam Summer 2011.

This blog is used to provide information regarding fundraising activities, upcoming events, services provided, and information on the graduate students as they work hard to raise enough funds to cover supplies, educational materials, and travel expenses.

Grand Total and Chili's Night!

We're done with our first round of fundraisers! Thank you to everyone who ordered ice cream and/or pizza coupons! We can't do any new orders for ice cream, but our pizza coupon book for $5 is still going on for a couple more weeks! Let us know if you'd like to purchase one!

Between our orders and a few donations we've received, we did pretty well! We've still got orders trickling in for pizza, too. At our last count on February 13th, we raised a total of $516.54. In just one week, we've increased our current total to:

Nearly $1000! Thanks again to everyone who contributed. We really appreciate it!

Our next fundraiser is Chili's Night in Logan! It's this coming Tuesday, February 22nd at Chili's on Main Street. Go eat there from 3pm to 10:30 pm, and tell them that you're there to support the Global Foundation for Children with Hearing Loss. Then, our USU's Aggies Go Global group will receive 10% of your total bill in support of the Foundation! Pretty simple, eh? ...and you've got to eat anyway, right?

What you like about Sound Beginnings: I love working with the kids in Sound Beginnings; they're amazing! I've also really enjoyed getting a chance to work closely with the Deaf Educators and Audiologists in Sound Beginnings and learning from their viewpoints.
Why you want to go to Vietnam and what you're looking forward to: In Vietnam, I'll get a chance to share and teach things I've been studying over the last few years with people who really wouldn't get the information otherwise. Plus, I'll be working closely with experts in my field whom I'll probably learn a thing or two from. Finally, it's Vietnam! Need I say more?

3. What you like about Sound Beginnings: Being involved in the Sound Beginnings program has instilled in me the passion to work with children who are deaf and hard of hearing and their families. I enjoy the interdisciplinary model we use and love seeing professionals from many areas come together to improve the quality of life for the children we work with.

Why you want to go to Vietnam and what you're looking forward to: I have gone on service missions in the past and I know that these experiences are once in a lifetime opportunities to apply the skills we have learned over the past years and make a difference in the lives of children and their families all over the world.

3. What you like about Sound Beginnings: I really enjoy working with the children and staff at Sound Beginnings. I have the unique opportunity of witnessing professionals in different disciplines support the needs of the whole child; including appropriate amplification and ongoing monitoring of hearing loss, daily classroom instruction tailored to the students’ needs and consistent speech and language therapy. The training I have received at Sound Beginnings has allowed me to see the big picture in teaching children with hearing loss!

4. Why you want to go to Vietnam and what you're looking forward to: I am looking forward to a capstone opportunity to solidify the theories and skills I have learned the last few years in my training at Utah State University. I will have the opportunity to network with professionals in my field, and to continue learning and fueling my passion!
